First 24 Hours

Tattoo may be red, sore, and warm to the touch. There may be some blood, plasma, and excess ink oozing from your tattoo at this time.

After 24 hours you may remove the bandage. It is easiest to remove second skin bandage under lukewarm running water. Gently peel the bandage by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Do not pull the bandage upwards.

Wash your tattoo with clean hands and a fragrance-free, mild soap then let it air dry. Once dry, apply another second skin bandage to your tattoo. Attempt to keep the bandage on for 4-7 days.

Days 2-3

During this stage your tattoo may begin to itch although it should be minimal. Do not scratch at your tattoo over the second skin bandage.

* If second skin must be removed before day 7, be sure to care for your tattoo as normal. In this case, wash your tattoo with clean hands and a fragrance-free, mild soap twice a day or whenever tattoo comes into contact with dirty surface. After washing, let your tattoo air dry then apply a VERY thin layer of aquaphor.

Days 4-6

The redness and swelling should be gone by now. Be sure not to itch or pick at the tattoo or bandage.

* If the second skin bandage has been removed you may have some scabbing at this point. Do not pick at scabs as this can cause scarring and pull out ink. Continue to wash your tattoo twice a day with clean hands and a fragrance-free, mild soap. Let your tattoo air dry then apply a VERY thin layer of aquaphor.

On day 7 you may remove the second skin bandage. Gently peel the bandage by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Do not pull the bandage upwards.

By this time any itching should be fading. The deeper layers of skin will still be healing so be sure to continue caring for your tattoo by applying a fragrance-free lotion frequently.

* If second skin was removed early then the scabbing will begin to peel away overtime. Be sure to let it fall away naturally, do not pick at the tattoo. Continue to wash your tattoo once a day and apply a fragrance-free lotion frequently.

Days 6-14+
